The products on this web site have all been created
by artist Diane De Baun. She has been working with clay since the
early 80’s.
Each incense burner, oil diffuser, bowl plate and pottery vessel
is hand-built either by the technique of coil, or slab, and raku
fired. Every piece is unique as it is individually made, fired,
and signed by Diane De Baun.
Most designs are combination of hand carving and stamping. Some
of Diane 's stamps take days to complete as they must be carved
to a good depth to imprint into the clay. She takes her drawn
design and enlarges or shrink the size and places it on the leather
hard clay which is either circular or square in form. Using
a sharp pencil she goes over the design which impresses into the
clay. Then she carves directly into the clay using first a
sharp pencil and changing to other tools which can dig out the clay.
The vessels are made by Diane De Baun using the thousand year old
tradition of coil building. Many of the pots are also hand
carved using a method of carving where the design is carved out
gradually by going over the lines 3 to 4 times to the desired depth.
Often they are then beveled.
